If you live in the civilised first world, you’ll never encounter the sheer variety and beauty of nature. However, for every cuddly and cute animal in existence, there’s 5 more terrifying and dangerous animals waiting to prey on it (and you, in some cases).
Here we present the 10 most terrifying animals that you probably never even knew existed!
10 The Lonomia Caterpillar
Now this creature looks..kind of pretty, right? You’ll find them all over Brazil, where they are considered an extreme health hazard. Why? Well, their spines are highly poisonous, and you don’t even need to touch them to get stung. If you get close enough, they will LAUNCH their spines straight at you, and if they pierce your skin, you have a miserable time ahead.
Beware these beautiful but dangerous creatures!
9. The Poodle Moth
This creature looks really cute in a photo doesn’t it? Like a Gremlin. Not scary at all! Well, imagine it flying straight towards you, zoning in on your face…
Or how about landing on your food, not moving while you stare at it in horror. Not so appealing now is it?
8. The Black Mamba
The venom of the Black Mamba snake is the deadliest on the planet, and can easily kill you several times over if you get bitten. Take a look at that mouth, with the backwards pointing teeth…If it bites you there is no escape, until it lets you go and then lets the venom do it’s work.
Avoid this nasty devil snake under all circumstances!
7. The Giant Marine Isopod
Have you ever seen a more messed up looking creature – it looks like something from a Spielberg movie..Or your worst nightmare. You’ll never encounter this particular nasty though, unless you go to the bottom of the ocean, where it hunts around eating anything that it can fit in it’s huge, gaping mouth. Terrifying!
6. The Atlantic Wolffish
OK, now this one is even MORE scary. This fish is colloquially known as The Devil fish, becuase it looks like a demon from your worst nightmares. Just look at that mouth!
This creature sits on the sea bed and waits for unsuspecting crabs and molluscs to swim past, then it leaps out, bites them, and drags them down to the sea bed where it eats them alive.
5. The Sheepshead Fish
This one is perhaps not quite as scary looking as the last but it’s just..weird. Look at the teeth, they look like human teeth that need a visit from the dentist.
You’ll find these fish in freshwater rivers, so if you ever catch one, just throw it back in the water and don’t even think about eating it. Gross!
4. The Goliath Birdeating Spider
Most people are terrified of spiders and this is surely the most terrifying of them all. Look at the size of it! These spiders can actually eat small birds, and hunt by keeping very still and then pouncing in a quick strike. They are not really dangerous to humans, but disturbingly have been found among bananas in supermarkets all over the world, as they sometimes get trapped in crates and are shipped all over the world. If you ever see one, call the authorities immediately keep clear.
Not that we need to tell you that!
3. The Wrinkled Face Bat
This thing doesn’t even look like it SHOULD exist. But it’s very well designed by natural selection, and those skin folds work perfectly for echolocation, meaning it can easily hone in on prey. It also has the advantadge of a much wider skull than a normal bat, so despite its hideous appearance, like all of God’s creatures it’s perfectly adapted to its environment and can seek and destroy prey with deadly accuracy and skill.
2. The Lamprey
This things looks sort of scary, right? Remember that giant sand worm from Star Wars, with the hooked teeth pointing inwards? This looks like a smaller but still dangerous version of that…It’s a real life worm that lives in the sea, and if it does ever fasten itself onto you, you’re out of luck because it causes enormous tissue damage to take it off. Also, bear in mind that it injects venom and you’ll see why it’s number 2 on our list.
1. The Candiru
I know what you are thinking, compared to some of the other terrifying looking creatures on our list, this looks like nothing. Right?
Well, here’s what this little spawn of the devil fish does. It’s attracted by the smell of urine, and it swims in rivers around South America, where people live..and bathe in rivers. Once it smells the urine it hones in…Right to the source, where it swims UP INSIDE YOUR MAN PARTS..Then sticks out it’s spiny backbone, piercing your johnson and instantly making it forever useless. There is no way to remove it…SO you must quickly find a surgeon and ask him to cut it off before you die from infection and / or blood loss.
Surely the most evil creature on the planet?
