Some high-profile red carpet couples last and others don’t. But, diamonds still last forever. Here are 12 celebrities who have sported some serious rocks over time.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
While it’s no secret that this marriage is over, Pitt proposed to his longtime partner, Jolie, in 2012 with a rectangular-cut diamond ring said to be over 10 carats. Brad’s sensational choice of engagement ring seems to perfectly reflect the love he had for his gorgeous actress. The flawless diamond ring oozes the love and care the couple once had, and which went into the design. It is said to have take Pitt and jeweler, Robert Procop, over a year to perfect the dazzler.
Pitt designed the ring for the mother of six with a very specific vision in mind. He is said to have wanted each and every detail to be perfect and he made sure he was heavily involved in the creative design process. The side diamonds have been specially cut to encircle Angelina’s finger and each diamond is of the highest possible quality. Experts have estimated the ring, which Jolie has requested in the divorce, to cost about $250,000.
Before marrying Brad Pitt, Angelina was married twice – to actor Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton, so we will be keeping an eager eye out to see where her next sparkling engagement ring will come from!
George Clooney and Amal Clooney
George Clooney finally got engaged to his lawyer sweetheart, Amal by proposing with an emerald cut diamond said to be around 7-carats or more. The diamond was ethically mined and the couple married in September 2014. It is said that George proposed the way every man should – on bended knee with a platinum ring said to cost around $750,000. The Hollywood hunk hand-picked the stunning ring for his proposal and the couple were married just 5 months later.
However, the human rights lawyer is said to have replaced her emerald cut diamond when she works on serious court cases. She was spotted shopping in high-end jewelers, Cartier, for a diamond-encrusted platinum band to replace her engagement ring.
Beyoncé and Jay Z
Jay Z presented Beyoncé with an 18-carat diamond ring and they got married in 2008. The superstar’s engagement ring took Hollywood by surprise when she announced that her and Jay Z had wed in a secret ceremony in 2008. Like many popular celebrity styles, the ring features a massive center, flawless diamond that is estimated at more than five million dollars. The Lorraine Schwartz creation is one of the most expensive engagement rings in the world, and, of course, one of the most famous.
Jay Z and Bey first clasped eyes on one another back in 2001 but it only the following year that they collaborated on the smash hit track, Bonnie & Clyde and that’s when the sparks really began, well, sparking. At the time, Beyoncé was merely a teenager and Jay 12 years her senior. They started out as friends before going on a date 18 months later. It wasn’t until 2004 that they made their first couple’s red carpet debut at the MTV Video Music Awards in matching outfits!
We all know how much the couple love the limelight, but it seems they prefer to keep mum on their private matters, so we’re not quite sure we will ever get to see details of the ring up close.
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth
Actor, Hemsworth, proposed to popstar Miley Cyrus four years ago with a 3.5-carat ring from well-known jeweler, Neil Lane. The pair met on the set of the movie, Nicholas Sparks where they experienced the first throws of love which eventually blossomed into something fresh. But, these are celebrities we’re talking about and like the rest, this couple has travelled a rocky road.
The couple initially got engaged in 2012 but called things off a year later. However, the showed signs of working things out when Miley helped Liam adopt a rescue dog in November 2015. From there, they were pretty much back together and she was spotted sporting the engagement ring he first gave her. That’s also about the time they moved in together.
Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III
Monaco’s Prince Rainier III proposed to the famous Hollywood actress, Grace Kelly by offering her a 10.5 carat square-cut diamond in 1955. As the guest of honor at the Festival de Cannes in 1955, Kelly never though her life would change in such a big way, but it did when she met the prince at a photo shoot held at the Palace of Monaco. That meeting was the beginning of one of the greatest love stories between an actress and a prince.
The couple got engaged a year later in January 1956 and the occasion was marked with a sensational ring that never left her finger. Kelly even insisted on wearing the ring in High Society which was her last on-screen appearance. The emerald-cut diamond was designed to sit on a platinum mount and was flanked by a baguette-cut diamond on either side of the main stone, making for a truly original creation.
Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian
Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian got engaged in April 2016 when Rob proposed with a seven-carat diamond ring designed by his friend and jeweler, Ben Baller. While Rob liked it and decided to put a ring on it, he didn’t choose just any old ring. He opted for the round-cut triple excellence stone for his fiancé. The ring is estimated at $325,000 but it’s possibly worth much more because of the clarity.
Rob reached out to his long-time friend and founder of IF & Co., Ben, with a couple of ideas and sent through a few photos he liked on Ben’s Instagram page. Ben told Rob to trust him, and so the creative process began. The pair met to discuss the ring and weigh up their options and it took just five days to complete and agree on the design. Rob then arranged to pop the question while Blac’s mother was in town, which meant Ben had to get through the design and creation process at warp speed.
Charlene Wittstock and Prince Albert II of Monaco
The Prince of Monaco proposed in 2010. He gave Charlene a 3-carat pear-shaped ring that is surrounded by round diamonds. The piece was designed by the Parisian jeweler, Maison Repossi. It is called the Tethts design and is grey gold in color.
Princess Charlene is regarded as one of the most effortlessly chic royals on Earth, but that hasn’t always been the case with this Zimbabwean-born monarch. Originally called Charlene Lynette Wittstock, the princess had her heart set on a swimming career and was well-known for her makeup-free, girl-next-door, broad-shouldered look along with her determination to be a successful athlete. However, she and the prince met in 2000 at the Mare Nostrum swimming meet and her life changes forever. Prince Albert proposed ten years later, and just four days after the wedding of Crown Princess Victoria.
In trust Monegasque style, the princess’s engagement ring is bright and beautiful, not to mention big. The gorgeous piece is valued at about $63,000.
Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello
Manganiello proposed to the Modern Family siren on Christmas Eve two years ago with an oval diamond sparkler while vacationing on the island of Kauai in Hawaii. They got married in November 2015.
According to Joe, the proposal had to take place indoors as the island was teeming with paparazzi. He had his heart set on proposing on the beach, but it just wasn’t viable. In any case, they had a massive bay window and the sun had begun to set over the mountains and bay. Joe has said he had the ring and had picked it out after looking at “every ring in the world.” He had a speech prepared in Spanish and he dropped to one knee as the sun set to deliver both speech and ring.
Victoria and David Beckham
Soccer sensation and stud, Beckham, proposed to his Spice Girls star girlfriend, Victoria, in 1998 where he gave her a 3-carat ring. They got married in 1999.
Of course, it’s always a girl’s prerogative to change rings, and Victoria has done just that during her marriage to David Beckham – 14 times to be exact. While Victoria may not have the kind of financial concerns the rest of us do, 14 is still pretty extreme! Then again, it is Posh Spice we’re talking about and she’s known for her luxurious taste.
David first proposed with a marquise-cut diamond set on a yellow band – hardly a “run of the mill” ring by anyone’s standards. After a brief encounter with an elegant diamond band in 2002, Victoria’s rings seem to have grown in significant proportions. Her upgrades to date have included a square-cut emerald flanked by diamonds, a yellow baguette, and a massive diamond pear cut.
Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth
Reese Witherspoon was proposed to in 2010 by her Hollywood agent boyfriend, Jim Toth. She was given a 4-carat Ashoka-cut stone and they got married in 2011. The stone is set on a platinum band that is embellished with pave diamonds. It’s elegant and timeless.
This couple began dating one another in January 2009 and announced their engagement almost two years later. Jim is said to have formed a strong bond with Reese’s children, Ava and Deacon, who she shares with former husband, Ryan Phillipe.
Jim and Reese got married in Ojai, California in 2011 and have continued to enjoy Hollywood life since then.
Pippa Middleton and James Matthews
The stunning Pippa Middleton and her fiancé financier, James Matthews, got engaged earlier this year while holidaying in the stunning Lake District in the northwest of England. Pippa’s art deco-inspired sparkler with Asscher-cut is said to be worth somewhere around $350,000.
While Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine, may have scored the late Princess Diana’s dazzler when William got down on one knee, Pippa’s engagement to the hedge fund manager didn’t only have pop culture fanatics popping the champagne, but her sparkler sparked up some serious conversation in the world of jewelry. Matthews, who Middleton had previously dated in 2012, got down on bended knee with the three-carat, art deco ring which is said to have a lot more appeal to people in the market for an engagement ring compared to Catherine’s. And the reason is straight forward: most women still prefer diamonds.
It was revealed that the long-expected engagement involved no less than a decade of waiting and meticulous planning, including a sensational campaign of gifts and treats that were also presented to Middleton’s parents. Fortunately, Matthews has earned millions from his financial company, Eden Rock Capital Management, which put him in the perfect position to woo Pippa in the most stunning ways. Not only does Pippa wear her ultra-pricey art deco engagement ring with pride, but she also sports a sensational Cartier Ballon Bleu watch that Matthews also gave her.
Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas
This sensational couple got engaged in 1999 when Douglas popped the question with a 10-carat side-set marquise diamond designed by Fred Leighton. They got married a year later in New York City.
We couldn’t do this list without mentioning the most expensive celebrity engagement ring. Xatherine, best known for her role as Elena Montero in The Mask of Zorro, boasts an engagement ring with an estimated price tag of 2,5 million US Dollars.
This incredible couple remain top of the “most talked about ring list.”
